Redefine Success - For Real This Time
Most success advice is about chasing outcomes. Hustle harder. Do more. Hit the goal, then move the goalpost. But here’s the thing, none of that tells you who you are. And it sure doesn’t help when things go sideways.
YouBrik flips the script. We’re not chasing success. We’re defining it. And not by some external metric, but by how you show up, over and over again.
The YouBrik Shift
from Plot to Character
The plot of our lives is messy, unpredictable, and often unfair. Other people and circumstances can change our stories at any moment. We set and pursue goals as part of the plot that helps move our stories forward. But whether we achieve those goals isn’t entirely up to us. Roadblocks can pop up unexpectedly.
So then is it fair to judge our own success by these standards? If my goal of running a marathon by 30 is ruined a week before the race when I injure my ankle in an accident, am I a failure for not meeting my goal? Of course not. But I might feel like a failure anyway because what I’m calling success is all wrong.
What if we measure our success by how we show up? By our values, our integrity, and our courage? What if the standard we hold ourselves to is how fully we embody our true character? What if we say, “we may not be able to control the plot, but we can own the character?”
If we do that, we take our power back.
Plot is what happens.
Character is how you show up.
How It Works
-
Choose your Brik
Select a core value that is central to your character.
Something you can embody regardless of what is going on around you (like confidence, creativity, or joy).
-
Define your Brik
What does this value mean to you?
If you were to grade yourself on this value, what behavior(s) would be necessary to give yourself a top grade? A passing grade? A failing grade?
-
Check Yourself
Track your progress on how you’re showing up each day.
How closely are you living in alignment with your values regardless of circumstances?
